WPTCE 2026: a success for RePowerSiC

The RePowerSiC team participated in the IEEE Wireless Power Technologies Conference and Expo 2026 (WPTCE 2026), held in Halifax, Canada, from 6 to 9 July. The event offered an important opportunity to present the project’s research, exchange knowledge with the international wireless power transfer community and explore new possibilities for collaboration.

A workshop on laser wireless power transmission

A key part of RePowerSiC’s participation was the workshop “Advances and Challenges in Laser Wireless Power Transmission for Space and Terrestrial Applications”, organised by Prof. Antonio García Loureiro and Prof. Natalia Seoane Iglesias from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), together with Prof. Eduardo Fernández from the University of Jaén (UJA).

The workshop brought together experts from research, industry and innovation to discuss recent developments, technical challenges and future applications of laser wireless power transmission. Contributions were delivered by Simon Fafard from Broadcom’s Industrial Fiber Product Division, Vitalii Kapranov, founder of PowerIn.Space, Stela Tkatchova, Ambassador of the European Innovation Council, and Tom Nugent, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of PowerLight Technologies.

RePowerSiC research contributions

RePowerSiC researchers also presented three scientific contributions during the conference. Amirmohammad Shahriyari contributed a poster, while Manuel García Otero and Adrián Ojea de Andrés delivered oral presentations.

The event marked an important professional milestone for García Otero and Ojea de Andrés, as it was their first opportunity to present their work before an international conference audience. Although Shahriyari was unable to attend in person, his research remained part of the project’s contribution to the event.

New connections and future collaboration

Beyond the technical sessions, WPTCE 2026 enabled the team to connect with researchers and specialists from countries including Japan, China and Lebanon. These exchanges provided new perspectives on the challenges addressed by RePowerSiC and opened the door to possible future collaborations.

The team returned from Halifax with valuable feedback, new ideas and stronger links with the international wireless power transfer community. These outcomes will support RePowerSiC’s continuing work on efficient laser-based wireless power transmission for terrestrial and space applications.
