I’m Abhay Chatterjee, and I joined the R&D Alminica that has role in the rePowerSiC project by close space PVT growth as well as transfer of knowledge and exploitation. My master’s was in Sustainable Energy Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, the thesis topic was Measuring the environmental impact of a carbon capture system integrated with a dehumidification system. In my home country India where there is an national initiative “Make in India” about manufacturing, and one active area is to establish silicon carbide manufacturing. That made me very interested to combine sustainable energy engineering with manufacturing systems—silicon carbide being one of my new experiences, as the semiconductor industry is set for future growth due to its demand in various industries.
In the RePowerSiC project, I will be contributing to Work Package 2. With my previous academic and professional experience in sustainability—which also focused on life cycle assessments—this task aligns closely with my interest in discovering how to make silicon carbide manufacturing more sustainable, especially by developing new processes in close space PVT configuration.
Being a part of the RePowerSiC project is a valuable first-hand opportunity to deepen my knowledge and apply sustainability principles in silicon carbide manufacturing. This project could be among the first to successfully consider sustainability as a core pillar in silicon carbide production, potentially serving as an example for future projects to include sustainability from the outset. There is great exploitation potential in using the digitalization by so called tokenization to create values for business by digital assets, and sustainability impact accounting will be key for a sustainable exploitation. Alminicas new business model in this is very forward looking for deeptech. The model could serve other EU project which develop ground-breaking emerging technologies.
