RePowerSiC Showcases Key Advances in Space Energy Technologies at the National Space Forum (NaFSKI) 2025

Sofia, Bulgaria – October 27–29, 2025 

The National Space Forum (NaFSKI) is one of Bulgaria’s most prominent events highlighting the latest developments in space science, education, and technology. Organized by Branch Cosmos of the Union of Physicists in Bulgaria, this year’s sixth edition, NaFSKI-VI, held at Sofia Tech Park, gathered distinguished experts, researchers, and innovators from across Europe to foster collaboration and new opportunities in the growing space sector. 

As part of the forum, the 2nd Space Portfolio Meeting – WP23 “In Space Solar Energy Harvesting” brought together leading European projects and specialists exploring innovative ways to generate and transmit energy in space.  

 

RePowerSiC Contributions to Advancing Space Power Technologies 

Representing the RePowerSiC project, Prof. Antonio García Loureiro from the University of Santiago de Compostela presented the progress achieved within Working Group 2 (WG2) – Wireless Power Transmission, providing an overview of the results reached so far by the consortium. 

With his extensive expertise in semiconductor devices, solar cells, and power converters, Prof. García Loureiro explained how RePowerSiC is contributing to the development of efficient and sustainable power technologies designed for future space applications. His presentation underlined the project’s pivotal role in wireless energy transfer research under the Horizon Europe framework. 

“The National Space Forum provided an excellent platform to highlight our advancements in wireless power transmission and to strengthen collaboration with the European space research community,” said Prof. García Loureiro. 

 

RePowerSiC Researchers from the University of Jaén Present Groundbreaking Work 

On 28 October 2025, two researchers from the University of Jaén, also key members of the RePowerSiC consortium, shared their latest scientific findings: 

  • Dr. Manuel Peralta-Fuentes presented “Band-gap PV Material Investigation for High-Power Optical Transmission in Planets and Satellites of the Solar System,” exploring innovative photovoltaic materials aimed at enhancing energy capture and conversion beyond Earth. 

  • Dr. Álvaro Valera Albacete introduced his work on “Development and Characterization of a High-Power Optical Transmission (HPOT) System,” detailing advances in the design and performance of optical power transfer systems for space missions. 

Their contributions emphasize RePowerSiC’s mission to push the boundaries of high-efficiency, sustainable, and reliable energy systems for use in future space environments. 

 

Final Day: Laser Power Transmission and Closing Reflections 

Wrapping up an inspiring three-day journey at NaFSKI 2025, on 29 October 2025, Amirmohammad Shahriyari from the University of Santiago de Compostela delivered an insightful talk titled “A Conceptual Approach to Deploying Laser Power Transmission Technologies in Space Infrastructure.”  

His presentation highlighted conceptual strategies for implementing laser-based power transmission systems as part of future space infrastructure, which represents an innovative research direction that aligns closely with RePowerSiC’s goals in wireless energy transfer and space sustainability. 

To mark the conclusion of this exciting event, the RePowerSiC representatives attending NaFSKI gathered for a group photo, celebrating three days of knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration among European experts in the space energy community. 

“This conference was a very successful event for our team, since not only have we received good feedback from other academic partners but also from well-established private companies. It was a good opportunity for our PhD students to present their contributions and engage with top-level researchers,” said Prof. García Loureiro.
