Introducing RePowerSiC to the Public and Scientific Community

In the early months of the RePowerSiC project, we have been thrilled to introduce our work to a broader audience through presentations and a feature in the Spanish magazine Joyas de Galicia. These initial dissemination efforts mark an exciting start as we actively work to share the project's vision and achievements with both the scientific community and the general public. Our goal is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and public awareness, ensuring that the potential impact of our innovations reaches diverse audiences.

Our researchers have presented RepowerSiC project at two important occasions:

  1. On Thursday, the 5th of December 2024, Javier Fernandez Lozano defended thesis, titled "Design of New High-Efficiency Silicon Carbide-Based Laser Power Converters," at the University of Santiago de Compostela. The defence, held at the CITIUS research centre, was attended by an audience of approximately 30 people. In his thesis, Javier presented the first results regarding the TCAD modelling of silicon carbide photovoltaic converters, some of these results were the basis of the RePowerSiC project initial prototypes. He eventually received an outstanding distinction for his work.

  1. On Friday, the 13th of December 2024, Antonio Garcia Loureiro was invited to present the RePowerSiC project at the Maker Fair in Santiago de Compostela (X edition), during the industry day. This edition’s topic focused on new technologies and attracting funding for creating spin-offs in innovative research fields, such as solar-based solar power systems, biological systems, agro-voltaic, and health care, among others. The event took place at the Biopolo Sionlla, with around 60 attendees, from investors, public bodies and university researchers.

Attendees were introduced to the goals of RePowerSiC: developing a high-power laser beaming system based on Silicon Carbide (SiC) to enable efficient wireless power transfer across vast distances in #space, reducing the weight and size of power receivers for more sustainable exploration.

Furthermore, the project was recently featured in the local magazine Joyas de Galicia, highlighting its groundbreaking advancements in laser-based energy transmission. The article describes the project as a potential revolution in sustainable energy transfer, enabling efficient, secure, and wireless delivery of energy to remote systems, such as satellites and rovers, as well as potential applications on Earth. The feature emphasises the project's significant European Commission funding and its collaboration with leading universities and companies, showcasing its ambition to address global energy challenges through cutting-edge technology.

Updates on the project and its groundbreaking work in efficient space power transmission will continue to be shared in the future.

Stay tuned and follow us on our social medias for more insights into this transformative field and the impact of the RePowerSiC project.
